This is according to my master plan, when I first created man.
The dictionary defines "art" as "something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings. : works created by artists : paintings, sculptures, etc., that are created to be beautiful or to express important ideas or feelings." That pretty much sums it up.
Art is many things to many people. It can often be thought of in terms of collaboration. For example, musicians often collaborate when writing a song while filmmakers collaborate to create a movie.
I think of my art as a collaborative affair with God, with the Creator Himself. He is the Great Artist, I am blessed to exercise my imagination and skill to reveal a beauty in nature that is all around us yet hidden, remaining out of sight until our collaboration sets it free and puts it on display where, if you look carefully you can learn much about the artist. For example, He is the master of color, balance, and porportion, He is comfortable working with macro and micro scales that exist beyond mankind imagination.
My role in this affair is the lesser one as I have only to reveal the great work He should properly receive credit for. Our pieces are one-of-a-kind. As different as snowflakes, they are unique and can never be replicated.
If I live to be 100 years old there will always be woodturners more skilled than me. While I must continually work on my craft, The better part of me remains an artist, not a craftsman - for me, art must always trump craft.
I hope you find as much beauty and inspiration in these creations as I do. I am truly blessed and honored to be able to work with such a great collaborator. It is never my desire that these works of art should confer glory on me, but rather, all glory should go to the Creator without whose contribution I would have no art at all.
